who we are.

A Christ-Centered
Community for
Worship & Growth

The United Methodist Church and its presence in the four congregations of Tehama County in Northern California (USA) strive to form disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.

Love Boldly: We passionately love God and, like Jesus, embrace and include people of every age, nation, race, gender, and walk of life. (Matthew 22:37-39 | John 13:34-35).

Serve Joyfully: With the heart of Christ, we journey alongside the most vulnerable among us, offering care and compassion with joy. (Psalm 100:1 | Nehemiah 8:10 | John 13:14-15 | 1 Peter 4:10)

Lead Courageously: Following Jesus’ example, we resist and dismantle all systems of evil, injustice, and oppression, striving for peace, justice, and reconciliation. (Joshua 1:9 | Ephesians 6:10), mindful that the greatest of the commandments by God in Christ Jesus is to love one another.

OUR MISSION

What you should expect when you attend service

As you enter our worship service you will be greeted with a warm smile and you will be given an order of worship that we will follow during our service. We use the United Methodist and The Faith We Sing hymnals during our worship service. Our services last around an hour and start at 9am at the Cone church, and at the El Camino service, and 11am at the Los Molinos and Red Bluff services.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the 1st Sunday of the month at the Cone and Red Bluff churches and on the 2nd Sunday at the El Camino and Los Molinos churches. At our Cone and Los Molinos churches we are learning the Faith We Sing hymnal and start a hymn sing 10 minutes before our services start. At our Los Molinos church we have a potluck after service on the 2nd Sunday of each month. At the Red Bluff church we serve a meal each Sunday after service.

We are small. We will know you are a visitor, sorry. There is a program (the “bulletin”) on the table at the back of the sanctuary so you can follow along with the service.

If you want to be more anonymous, slip in late and leave early. You will know to slip out when the person is coming down the aisle with the big brass candle snuffer to put out the altar candles. At that time, everyone else will be standing and the pastor will be giving a good word for the road. (In the bulletin, this moment is called the “Benediction.”).

Be yourself.

If you haven’t had much church experience, we invite you to show up, grab a program, and sit wherever you like. Then, let it all wash over you. You are not obligated to participate in any activity or say any words you don’t want to say– and nobody cares if you do or don’t. Don’t worry about finding the right songs, saying the right words, or knowing what the heck is going on. Church is an experience. Just soak it in.

Occasionally, a regular attendee will welcome a visitor during announcement time. This is a friendly gesture. We will be respectful of where you are on your faith journey. Don’t stress!

We are each walking our own path, traveling together; the more, the merrier. You are already being guided to where you need to go. You will know when to lean in and when to move on.

God doesn’t care what you wear. (1 Samuel 16:7, Matthew 23:27–28, 1 Peter 3:3–4, James 2:1–4) Dress for your own comfort. If you would feel comfortable wearing something to dinner at an aunt or uncle’s house, you’ll probably feel good wearing it in this church. Tee-shirts and leggings are fine. Nice dresses and suits are fine too. Most of us dress somewhere in between– think Hawaiian shirt territory.

Be yourself.

We believe all persons are beloved children of God. United Methodists affirm the full humanity and value of all persons. (full stop)

This means we affirm the full humanity and value of all persons, regardless of categories such as race, gender, immigration status, relationship status, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation.

That affirmation extends to inclusion in the full life and leadership of the church.

Church may not be your preferred way to spend a Sunday morning, but we affirm your worth, just as you are, and won’t make it weird.

Children are also invited to be themselves.

Kids make noise and ask questions. Just like adults, kids will have meltdowns– even when they are trying their best! It happens! We don’t mind!

We have paper, crayons, and coloring pages at the table just to the left as you enter the sanctuary. You are welcome to bring toys for them to play with during the service.

Children may stay with you in the sanctuary. Alternately, if you would like to hear the service but want to contain an active kiddo outside the sanctuary, there is a room to the right as you walk in where you can close the doors and still hear everything. We also have a playroom for the little ones. Feel free to start in one place and move during the service to do what is right for you and your child.

If you would like your child in Sunday School during your visit, please contact us ahead of time.
